David Osgood, EdD, MPH

More than 30 years of practice as a Psychologist has taught me that true healing arises within a deep, trusting, and dynamic relationship between two or more people. I strive to facilitate such a relationship with each individual, couple and group with whom I work.

For most of my practice I was a Senior Staff Psychologist at The University of Vermont’s Counseling Center. There I counseled graduate and undergraduate students and served as a clinical supervisor of masters and doctoral students. I co-founded and developed The Growth Center – a Counseling and Consulting practice in Essex Junction, Vermont with my wife Carla.

After our Essex Junction offices were slated to be torn down as part of a downtown renovation project in the summer of 2014 Carla and I moved our private practices to Burlington where we continue our work with individuals and couples.

We also have had a long and rich history of bringing groups each winter to live and study in the experience of the deeply spiritual and magical culture of Bali, Indonesia.

our work in bali

My wife Carla and I have been traveling and teaching in Bali, Indonesia for over 20 years. Each winter we bring a small group of University of Vermont students to the island to live with Balinese families and experience a way of life where everything is seen as interconnected.

The Balinese people see relationship as vital. Good relationship is seen as primary between people, between human beings and the natural world, and between humans and the ever present world that is beyond words. We experience these relationships by joining with our Balinese families and traveling to numerous village gatherings, spiritual ceremonies and sacred places.

Our time living in this unique culture has had a profound positive impact on our work as Psychologists. It has affirmed our experience that all healing unfolds from that which is ever present.

I explored the roots of our suffering and ways to release that suffering over 20 years ago in my doctoral dissertation, “Teach Only Love, For That Is Who You Are”.

I find that the perspective that I explored back then has deepened and expanded into the context within which I work today. Click here to read the introduction to my writing.
